ST. ANTHONY GUIDE

Fuel planner

Dune riding burns fuel much faster than trail riding, because the engine works under sustained load with nowhere to coast. Here is roughly what a weekend costs you.

Estimate your weekend

A planning range rather than a prediction. Load varies enormously by machine, tyre, driver, and how soft the sand is on the day.

Where to fill up

LAST FULL STOP

St. Anthony

Top off the tow rig and the machines in town before turning west toward Red Road. Once the group is staged, an avoidable fuel run costs daylight and breaks the day apart.

FULL SERVICE

Rexburg

Rexburg has the broader choice of fuel, groceries, parts, lodging, and meals. It is the sensible full resupply stop for groups coming north on US-20.

ON THE SAND

Nothing

There is no fuel on the dunes. Western rides are long enough that a full tank, secured reserve fuel, and a turnaround point are part of the route plan, not optional extras.

Carrying fuel safely

  • Use approved containers, secured so they cannot shift or tip in transit
  • Keep cans out of direct sun at camp, because heat builds pressure faster than people expect
  • Never refuel a hot machine, and let it cool first
  • Keep a fire extinguisher accessible at camp
  • Carry more than a single day's worth if you are staying the weekend
Current prices

For live pricing, check a fuel-price app before you leave. Prices in small towns next to busy recreation areas typically run above the state average, which is the cost of the convenience.
